Private & Group Sumo Experiences in Tokyo: Charter, Corporate & School Groups

Planning something for a group — a private party, a company team, a school trip, or a big event? Sumo is one of the most memorable things you can do together in Tokyo, and yes, you can book it privately or for a group. This guide covers the options, roughly what each costs, and how to arrange it, whether you come to the stable or we bring sumo to your venue.

Can you book a private or group sumo experience in Tokyo?

Yes. At a hands-on experience you can either charter the whole thing for your group or have sumo brought to your venue. Unlike watching a tournament from the stands, everyone takes part: former professional wrestlers perform real bouts up close, then your guests put on a mawashi and take one on, right on an authentic ring — with full English support. It works for families and friends, corporate teams, incentive and MICE groups, and school trips.

What are the options?

1. Private charter — the stable to yourselves

Have the experience exclusively for your group, with no other guests in the room. About 90 minutes, up to 40 people, kids 4 and up welcome. Ideal for celebrations, friends travelling together, and smaller corporate teams.

2. Corporate events & team-building

Real-ring sumo is a genuine team-building activity — your team learns the rituals, cheers each other on, and faces a wrestler together. Do it as a private charter at the stable, or have us bring it to your office, hotel or event space. Welcome/farewell dinners, VIP bouts and award-ceremony tie-ins are all possible, and MICE / incentive groups of 100–300 are supported.

3. School & education groups

A hands-on, genuinely cultural stop for school trips and study tours: students aged 4+ take part on a real ring and learn the history and etiquette from former professionals, with English support. Larger schools can be split across sessions.

4. Sumo to your venue (dispatch)

Can't come to the stable? Two former professional wrestlers, an MC (Japanese or English), a portable ring mat and setup staff come to your hotel banquet hall, event space or wedding. The program mirrors the stable show — history and rules, live bouts, a guest ring challenge, and photos — adjusted to your room and timing (90, 60 or 30 minutes).

How much does a private or group sumo experience cost?

Rough guide (exact quotes are confirmed on inquiry):

  • Private charter at the stable: groups of 20–40 are charged per person (adults ¥11,000, children 4–12 ¥7,700); smaller groups are a flat charter fee, from about ¥100,000 for up to 5 guests.

  • Sumo to your venue (dispatch): from ¥200,000 (30 min) to ¥300,000 (90 min) for up to 50 guests, plus ¥2,000 per extra guest; Tokyo venues included, travel charged at cost for venues outside Tokyo.

How do you book it?

Tell us the basics — group type (private / corporate / school), roughly how many guests, your preferred date(s), and whether you'd like it at the stable or at your venue. We'll send a quote with the price, timing and what's included, then confirm. It's all handled in English.

For a few people rather than a group, you can simply book the standard experience any day of the year, or read what to expect at a sumo experience first.
